Please Recycle!
The state of California requires all households to participate in the refuse
recycling program. That is why Westchester Woods has blue and white
refuse containers.
So what CAN be recycled in the white containers?
white ledger, color ledger, cardboard, blended bond, aluminum, plastic bottles
such as water bottles and milk-jugs, cans, paper, newspaper, computer print,
mixed paper, glass, metal, magazines
electronics, TVs, monitors, batteries, tires, drum-containers, wet paint,
hazardous materials, liquids, appliances, chemicals (including medication), wood,
fabrics, furniture, bonded items such as mirrors glued to wood or mirrors on
fiberglass backing (closet doors for example), garden refuse, kitchen refuse
Hazardous materials are materials that are damaging to the environment when
they get into landfills such as:
new or used motor-oil, chemicals, lacquer based paints and thinner, medication,
large amounts of cleaners, industrial waste, tires, etc.

What can NOT be placed in the BLUE or the WHITE containers?
Answer: special or hazardous materials and electronics
BLUE is for general refuse that can not be recycled (see exclusions below)
WHITE is for refuse that can be recycled.
Specially enacted legislations prohibits the disposal of electronic waste such as
appliances, computers, monitors and any item that contains electronic circuit
boards into the regular trash and into landfills. Electronic waste must be taken to
specially authorized collection centers.
Goodwill is one of those authorized collection centers in the Los Angeles area.
